Meet Liz
I’m Elizabeth. Most people call me Liz.
I am excited to be running for a second term on the Arlington School Committee. I have lived in Arlington with my husband and two children, current Stratton students, since 2012.
I am running for a second term on the School Committee because I have the experience, knowledge, and commitment to support the Arlington Public Schools through the next three years. We will implement a new Strategic Plan, roll out a new K-5 Literacy program, continue to explore heterogeneous grouping at the middle and high school level, wrap-up construction on Arlington High School, and begin a feasibility study for Ottoson Middle School.
During my first term on the School Committee I collaborated with my colleagues to on-board a new superintendent, return students to classrooms during a global pandemic, and draft a five-year strategic plan for the Arlington Public Schools.
In my capacity as a School Committee member, I helped to establish focus groups for the monthly School Committee Chats to hear the voices of all of our constituents. Knowing before and after-school care is important to many families, I worked with the Superintendent and the After School Programs to add morning care at some schools and increase capacity and shared space use across the district. Finally, as Chair of the school committee I worked to ensure all voices were heard as the committee considered issues, such as Heterogeneous Grouping at the High School, selecting a new K-5 Literacy program, and exploring possible adjustments to the school calendar.
I have been an educator for over twenty years. I have a Masters in Child Development from Tufts University and have been teaching early childhood education continuously since 2002. The past eleven years I’ve been a Kindergarten teacher. I’ve given presentations and won awards, grants, and fellowships for my teaching. I’ve been a key voice in hiring exceptional leadership for my school. However, over all the time I’ve taught, I’m most proud of making a difference in the lives of nearly 600 students and their families.
The Arlington School Committee needs the voices of parents AND educators. I ask for your vote, so I can continue to support and advocate for our students and our schools.
