Hiring a superintendent

Hiring and supervising the superintendent is the major responsibility of the school committee. During my first term on the school committee, Arlington Public Schools hired Liz Homan as the superintendent of schools. Dr. Homan has assisted APS in making positive changes in how APS communicates with parents, prioritizes staff development, and achievement for all students.


School re-opening

During my first term, APS developed and implemented a school reopening plan to safely transition from remote learning to in person learning.


Union Contracts

Arlington has reached collectively-bargained contracts with teachers and other vital staff at times when neighbor districts have been unable to reach timely agreements.


Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

In the past three years, APS has put numerous policies in place on training and hiring practices to both attract and retain staff.


Communication

In the past three years, I have improved the school committee chats to include more of the community by fostering outreach to more identity groups across our town.
